• "Nepeta Cataria" is the official name for catnip, a plant related to the mint family.

• Genetics is a major reason cats react to catnip. Nearly 90% of all cats respond to catnip.

• Most cats don't react to catnip until they are at least 3 months old.

• Some cats will roll and rub on the catnip, purring loudly. Others will eat it and act "crazy" for 5 to 15 minutes. Most cats will bathe and take a nap to sleep off the affects of catnip.

• All catnip is not the same.  The best catnip is 100% pure catnip.
